I don't like dressing up. Every time I get dressed up, I go to the mirror and expect to feel beautiful and instead I see a version of myself that looks completely uncomfortable. Many years ago, I saw an awards show and one of the leading actresses came on stage in a very simple, fitted, beautiful t-shirt with a flowing ballgown skirt that cascaded to the floor. I thought she was a vision. She looked elegant and comfortable and stunning. I knew then and there that I wanted to feel comfortable when I had to get dressed up. Years later, when I was engaged, I asked my mom to sew my wedding gown and I designed it. I told her I wanted to wear a t-shirt with a flowing skirt that reached the floor. We collaborated and together, we made a gown that looked like a t-shirt without the sleeves and she gave me my flowing skirt. I felt so comfortable, so beautiful and most of all, I got to concentrate on our special day instead of feeling insecure.
I want you to feel beautiful in my t-shirts. I want you to wear that sweet, design and know that you can put that beautiful, flowing skirt with it or pair it with fancy slacks or put that beautiful blazer with it, too. You can also grab your jeans and go for coffee and feel just the same. You can feel like you.
I no longer have my amazing mom but I know she would wear my t-shirts with pride. It was she and my supportive dad that always encouraged me to be myself. Thank you Mom and Dad. I miss you every single day and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the courage to start Cotton Cupcakes. You will always and forever be here with me.
I agree 100%.
